Lavendar Mountain Stars

Today this is on my design wall. At the beginning of February I had 18 stars with settings finished. Now I have 28! It is a slow process for me especially because it takes me such a long time of sifting through strips to decide on each one to fit on each side of the friendship stars.

When I was a member of Lavendar Mountain Quilters in Rome, Georgia we had a monthly Friendship Stars Swap. Each month a different color was chosen and we made a 6" block for each member.

It has only taken me about fourteen years to decide on this Twist 'N Turn setting, which I learned in a workshop from Sharyn Craig.

As you can see I have only completed 28 blocks and I have 47 to go! This project will probably not be finished this year but I will try :-)

BTW........I did not misspell "lavendar" it is the name of a mountain in Rome, Georgia and the guild uses it in their name.

UFOs in 2012

I have decided to work on 12 UFO projects this year. One of them has already been finished but I can't show it to you until I am able to give it as a gift. Here are my 12 UFOs..

Quilting is Supposed to be fun!

I have been staring at these fabrics for two days! Actually pulling fabrics from my stash, ironing them, arranging them, rearranging them and staring at them. Designing and playing with the fabrics is my favorite part of quilting but this time it is driving me nuts!

Our guild challenge for February is called: "Honoring Red and Pink"
We are to use the colors Red and Pink and one other color (neutrals and black don't count). We may actually use as many colors as we like.

The finished size is to be at least 36" on all sides.

I even like red and pink together. Back in the 70's I had a red and pink bathroom but I just can't any creative ideas going. I want to use the pink, red, purple and green print in the center front but that's about as far as I can get.

Does anybody have any great ideas they would like to share?

Up, Up and Away

Well not exactly away but up, up anyway. Up stairs to our bonus room. Two years ago we moved my Quilt Studio down stairs into our third bedroom because of my complaining so much about climbing the stairs. Well I did like not having to climb the stairs and liked being closer to the action downstairs but have never liked the cramped space. My fabric was crowded into a closet and it was hard to see and much of it was hard to reach. Also, if my cutting table was opened out the ironing board had to moved against a wall!

This weekend I finally convinced my darling husband that the upstairs studio really was best.


I really do feel bad about his aching back but we are taking it slow and he will get some help with moving my Horn sewing table, which weighs a ton, upstairs and switching the tv cabinets. He has already moved the bed downstairs along with lots of fabric, shelves, cutting table and ironing board. He is a doll! I really do appreciate him so I just baked some brownies for him!

Maybe he will let me have one also!

Happy Anniversary Wednesday Wonders

Happy Anniversary Lory, Helen, Verla, Joan, Carol, Diana, Hattie, Lyn, Chickie, Louise, Peggy and Lynne!

Although I don't remember the exact date, these twelve beautiful friends celebrate their 10th Anniversary as a group in the early months of this year!

We were a diverse group of ladies put together as a "bee" by our quilt guild. We did have a couple of ladies who moved on and a few who moved in but these twelve ladies will forever remain in my heart as the Wednesday Wonders.

As the name suggests we met on Wednesdays, every Wednesday, and made quilts, ate, gossiped, ate, shared smiles and tears, ate, and generally held each other up.

In 2003 my husband and I moved back to Georgia and I have not been able to see these special ladies since but I will always consider these special ladies among my dearest friends.

At our last meeting before I moved away the Wednesday Wonders surprised me with this beautiful quilt. I have taken many naps under it and feel surrounded by their love and warmth every time. It has also been the favorite quilt for my precious granddaughter, Skylar, to nap under when she visits. That sweet baby girl, who was once the guest of honor at one of our luncheons, is now seven and too old for naps but she still loves the quilt.



Thank you special ladies for the beautiful quilt and my treasured memories of each of you and your friendships.

Jingle Bells Quilt

I won the challenge blocks from my guild's Block of the Month this past August. The challenge was to use a strip this piece of Jingle Bells fabric and add our own coordinating fabrics with it to create a 9" block.


Putting this quilt together was quite a challenge as there were many shades of green, red and gold. My daughter, who has many talents none of them artistic, choose this dark green fabric with tiny red stripes as the sashing and gold cornerstones and she was right on the money. Her choices really brought the whole quilt together. Thanks darling daughter!
