Screaming Tasmanian Devils!

Have you ever been awakened by a dozen screaming Tasmanian Devils? Well that is almost what happened to us at 2:30 am Monday morning. We were awakened to the loudest most startling cat screaming I had ever heard and it was right under my side of the bed! It sounded just like we had been invaded by a dozen fighting Tasmanian devils. I raced for the water spray bottle while my darling husband crawled under the bed and grabbed Amelia by the scruff of the neck and chucked her into the laundry room and closed the door. Midnight ran upstairs to cower under a bed in the grandkids play room. Meanwhile my heart kept pounding and my breathing was labored for quite awhile. While Darling Hubby drifted off to dreamland I did not sleep until 5 am when I gave up and took a tranquilizer.

Last night we slept with the light on hoping to ward off another confrontation, which it did until I was preparing breakfast this morning at which time it started again.

Midnight weighs twice as much as Amelia and has claws but she doesn't fight back. She just runs and hides. Maybe if she would take a good swat at Amelia, the aggressor would leave her alone.

For about a week Midnight has been spending large parts of her day indoors but returning to the garage at bedtime. Amelia, the "Diva", aka "Vixen," hisses whenever she gets the chance but for the most part tolerates the newcomer.

After spending cold days inside by the fire Midnight became increasingly insistent that she be allowed to sleep inside at night and she began to attack the weather stripping around the garage door. Trying to preserve our house and our sleep we decided to let her sleep in our office. That was good for a couple of nights before she wanted out and would wake us with her meowing.

Sunday evening after much debate we decided to just let both cats sleep inside and the result was a dozen screaming Tasmanian Devils! We have been lavishing love an attention on Amelia trying to assure her that she is not being replaced but it hasn’t worked. Midnight tries very hard to stay out of the way but it hasn’t worked. What do we do now? Maybe some of you cat lovers out there will have a solution to our dilemma.

It is my understanding that Siamese cats (even those that are not purebred) are extremely territorial and find it very hard to tolerate an intruder. It's not that she is jealous or feeling neglected. I have no idea what the answer is.

I'm sorry your kitties aren't getting along. Have you talked to your vet? I wish I had an answer for you.

Cats often do take time to adjust to a new cat in the family. They usually do adjust however. Continue to give Amelia special attention and reassure her that she is still number one.

Lyn, that is one of the funniest stories. Enjoyed it so much.
